What Is Acupuncture for Veterans?
Acupuncture for veterans involves placing tiny needles at strategic spots to promote healing and well-being. These needles are so small that no discomfort is felt throughout the treatment. Each needle stimulates the nerves and other tissues in a special way to relieve the symptoms of many different conditions. Acupuncture is most often associated with pain relief, but it can also be a strong treatment for mental health benefits.
The Benefits for Veterans
Acupuncture can be performed fairly quickly. There are no injections or incisions involved, so there is no downtime associated with the treatment. Most of our patients like the fact that this is a natural form of medicine and that it can be used with other conventional levels of treatment, such as counseling and medication.
Acupuncture for veterans can provide relief for a variety of conditions, including nightmares, flashbacks, irritability, anxiety and hyper-vigilance, chronic pain, PTSD, and poor sleep. Most individuals who seek acupuncture treatment are aware of its uses for pain management, but it can also benefit veterans seeking treatment for:
- Concentration, mental clarity, and memory
- Poor sleep and low energy
- Headaches and migraines
- Frequent pain in the back, shoulder, neck, knee, or ankle
- Dysmenorrhea, menopausal symptoms, and PMS
- Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
- Cancer and prostatitis
- Asthma and rhinitis
- Depression and schizophrenia
- Smoking cessation, opiate and drug addiction
- Nausea, IBS, and gastrointestinal disease
- High blood pressure and erectile dysfunction
- …and more!

Who Is a Good Candidate?
Virtually anyone is a good candidate for acupuncture. If you have a bleeding disorder or a pacemaker, however, it may be a good idea to consult with our professionals first or to find an alternative therapy. Patients who are looking for a safe, effective, and easy treatment are good candidates for acupuncture for veterans. Acupuncture can be a good choice for many conditions and disorders that veterans commonly suffer from, and is a great low-cost treatment for those looking to improve their physical and mental health.
With the Veterans Choice Act, acupuncture for veterans is completely covered by your insurance. This helps provide accessible treatment, and there is no stress regarding how your treatment will be paid for. We encourage interested veterans to schedule a consultation with us to learn more about how the process works.
What to Expect
Our professionals will first evaluate your condition to determine the best placement of the needles. Once the provider has made a thorough examination, you will recline on a table so that the treatment can begin. The needles will be inserted into the proper areas, and the provider may need to adjust them. As mentioned above, most patients do not feel any discomfort during this part of the treatment.
The needles will then rest in place for up to 20 minutes while your relax. This is to ensure the maximum benefits are achieved. Before you leave our office, you are welcome to schedule a follow-up appointment. Some patients need a few additional appointments in order to experience relief from certain symptoms, while others find that they feel the benefits of the treatment in just a few hours.
