Yesterday 78,783 new cases were confirmed in the United States and the speed doesn’t seem to slow down. We are in this unprecedented time together fighting against an invisible enemy.
Our physical body has not yet developed an effective antibody against COVID-19, and the ongoing vaccination may not be able to catch up the speed of this fast mutating virus. At least for now, our only hope lies within two major factors: following the wellness practices and boosting our own immune system.
The standard wellness practices include wearing facial coverings, social distancing, avoiding social gatherings, and of course frequent hand washing with soap or sanitizing agents. Take Taiwan for example, a small country packed with a very dense population of 23 million people and yet there are less than 460 infected cases and only 7 deaths. It’s an incredible success we could learn from. What made it so effective in keeping the population safe from COVID-19 lies in the fact that people in Taiwan began to wear a face covering since the beginning of the pandemic while following all other wellness practices mentioned above. It is undeniable that facial coverings do eliminate infectious aerosols to its minimum, thus cutting down the initial viral load accumulated inside our body. It has been confirmed with many scientific findings that “the mean viral load of severe cases was around 60 times higher than that of mild cases, suggesting that higher viral loads might be associated with severe clinical outcomes (Yang Liu, Li-Meng Yan et al.. Viral dynamics in mild and severe cases of COVID-19. Lancet Infect Dis. 2020 Jun;20(6):656-657.)
The other effective way to help you stay strong and healthy is to keep your immune system intact. In Chinese Medicine theory, the immune system is not limited to the immunoglobulins such as igG, igE and the immune cells such as killer T cells that destroy the foreign invaders. We would consider all factors that contribute to building a better immune system such as diet, sleep, exercises, stress, seasonal changes, body constitution etc. In short, we believe only if all these factors are taken into account it is hard to keep our immune system nice and strong. Vaccination is one way to put on an extra shield against a very specific pathogen, but ultimately it’s the physical body underneath the shield that determines our health strength. Chinese medicine recognized this thousands years ago therefore it always puts more emphasis on preventative and proactive measures as opposed to focusing on the treatment itself. Good immune simply means ‘everything flows in the right direction’; if we keep our physical, mental and emotional body aligned on the optimum level.
We have custom formulated a special tea blend that consists of 14 herbs, specifically to boost your immune system. Just steep one tea bag in the mug with hot water for 3-5 minutes, and enjoy the Immune Boost tea while it’s still warm. Among all the herbs, Astragalus or Huang Qi is an excellent herb that has been scientifically proven to strengthen the immune system; Japanese honeysuckle or Jin Yin Hua, has been found to help the body target various viral infections, including H1N1, ebola, and Sars-CoV2. The Siler root or Fang Fong, is classified as one of the best immune supporting herbs in Chinese Medicine and is often prescribed to treat or prevent infectious diseases. The formulation of this tea is quite powerful yet gentle to children and elderly. It may be taken during pregnancy but please always consult with a licensed Chinese Medicine practitioner before taking it. However, we do not recommend this tea to individuals with active autoimmune disease or receiving immunosuppressive therapy due to its immunostimulatory effects.
